Food distributor wins World Trader of the Year award 2018

A food distributor in the area is being honored for the business it does abroad.

The West Michigan World Trade Association has named Wyoming-based Gordon Food Service as its 2018 World Trader of the Year.

Gordon Food Service will be honored at a dinner ceremony on May 10 from 5:30-8 p.m. in Grand Rapids at Watermark Country Club, at 5500 Cascade Rd. SE.

Tickets for the event are available online, priced at $35 for WMWTA members and $50 for non-members.

Organizations and individuals with a presence in West Michigan that demonstrate a “strong commitment to the global marketplace” are eligible for the award, which the WMWTA has given every year since 1977.

“It is the privilege of West Michigan World Trade Association to participate in the promotion of the global import/export industry that is growing rapidly in our area,” said Kerri Orders, president, WMWTA.

“Gordon Food Service is a shining example of a long-standing, family business that is making a difference here and abroad. This is our way of thanking Gordon Food Service for putting Grand Rapids on the map. The WMWTA board and members are proud to recognize their extensive expansion in global trade.”

Founded in 1897, Gordon Food Service is a fifth-generation family business.

In 2018, the company’s export business will offer more than 10,000 items to international customers.

“Our offshore suppliers and customers are an important and growing part of our business,” said Rich Wolowski, CEO, Gordon Food Service. “On behalf of our international teams, we’re proud to receive the WMTA’s award as a symbol of our commitment to great service in support of our customers.”
