Grand Rapids-based Catalyst Partners, and Zeeland-based Better Way Imports have earned spots on the 2017 ‘Best for the World’ list by the nonprofit B Lab.

There are 846 companies from 48 countries on the list.

Catalyst Partners is a ‘building performance’ firm.

Better Way Imports oversees the distribution and retail sale of fair-trade goods made by women in developing nations who may otherwise have been sold into sex slavery.

The ‘Best for the World’ list honors businesses that ranked in the top 10 percent of all certified B Corporations, based on an assessment of the companies’ impacts on their employees, communities and the environments.

B Corporations are certified by B Lab, a Berwyn, Pennsylvania-based nonprofit that “serves a global movement of people using business as a force for good,” based on standards for social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency.

‘Businesses like Catalyst Partners and Better Way Imports are true examples of what it means to use business as a force for good in our local communities and beyond,’ said Elissa Hillary, the president of Grand Rapids-based Local First.

‘Local First is proud of these businesses for their work in the community and commitment to creating living-wage jobs, protecting the environment and promoting equity in the workplace and in business.'”
